Simple ways to give your home a face lift this holiday season

As the leaves begin to fall outside, and the weather gets colder, we are spending more and more of our time inside. In our home, we have all been feeling a growing sense of excitement for the coming holidays. While I can't wait for all of the coming fun, it also means my home is about to be filled with all sorts of people for dinners, parties, cookie baking and all of the many other activities to come.

To help put your best foot forward this fall, check out this list of simple home improvements that can completely change the look and feel of your space. Whether you undertake these projects on your own, or hire a professional to handle things for you; these simple projects will give you the look of a new place at a fraction of the cost.

Add and accent wall.

You have unlimited paint options for your accent wall, as well as other surfaces and materials. Even the location of your accent wall is purely personal. Your home is unique, so your accent wall should be just as special. Accent walls can be used in any room to change the texture, the flow and the feel. Here is a great article on some creative and fun accent wall ideas.

Repaint the kitchen cabinets

The kitchen always seems to be the room where people congregate. Really wow people this year with a completely new look. Be advised, kitchen cabinet painting is a BIG undertaking.

So if you plan to DIY this, watch lots of videos and make sure you are prepared for what's to come. It can be slow and tedious work that, if done incorrectly, will make the kitchen look worse and not better. When hiring a crew, make sure to ask lots of questions and get to know their prep process. You may find a super cheap bid, but if they cut corners and don't properly prep, you'd probably be better off just buying a vacation for the holidays instead. Repaint the staircase

As one of the most high traffic areas in our home, the stairs often take a beating. To give stairs a new look, switch the color drastically. We love going pure white, or polar opposite and painting stairs a dark bold color. We've even had clients who decided to remove their old and worn stair runners and have the stairs themselves painted. We fell in love with several of the fun and innovative painted staircases we found in this article.

Add simple accessories

Adding curtains or throw pillows to the living room can immediately pull the space together and give it a fresh new look. A slightly more expensive accessory that adds a lot of flavor is a nice new area rug. We would definitely recommend checking out https://ruggable.com/ if you decide to go this route. Not only are they affordable, and beautiful, they are also machine washable, which to me is one of the greatest selling points of all time.

If you're looking to accessorize other rooms, an affordable one that makes a BIG difference is switching out doorknobs, or handles and knobs in the kitchen or bathroom. We can easily take a room from shabby to chic by adding beautiful custom details like this. Another great accessory to any room is fresh cut flowers. They make any space seem more welcoming and purposeful. Make the room your own with all of the little details, picture frames, candles, custom trinkets, comfortable blankets etc.

Baseboards and doorframes

Whether you are just cleaning them off, or painting them with a fresh coat of paint, this simple task can really make a room feel refreshed. However, if you're really looking for something that brings the "wow", painting really bold trims and baseboards can make a room pop in a whole new way. Check out some inspiration in this blog article.

Whether you try one of these, or all of them, we hope your home is filled with joy, love and beauty this holiday season.
